- Who is organising the course ?
Ans : The course is being organised by a group of psychiatrists in Leicester. Leicester has a long history of helping candidates prepare for the MRCPsych examinations. The organisers have been involved in working with individuals and groups to help them prepare for the exam. The panel has a wealth of expertise with many having examined at the Royal College exams, organising the MRCPsych exams, and conducting examination workshops.
- What is being offered in the course ?
Ans : The course will offer CASC training in small groups based on the exam format. The two day course will cover a large number of CASC scenarios, designed on the examination templates. The training will be based on performing the scenarios and observing others perform, with feedback from other candidates, actors and examiners. Most of the course time will be devoted to these tasks, and we do not plan to have lectures. There will be a workshop aimed at discussing difficult, unusual and oft repeated stations. There will also be a Panel discussion at the end of the course. The panel will include Royal College Examiners.
- What will be the size of the groups ?
Ans : According to the exam pattern we plan to have 16 active individual stations in the morning sessions, and 4 active linked paired stations in the afternoon sessions, a maximum of 16 candidates will be divided into groups of 3. With this arrangement, we hope that candidates will use the opportunity to actively perform a minimum of 8 individual stations and 3 linked stations on Day 1. Day 2 will be a full Mock Examination as per the actual examination with written feedback for every station.
- Why should I attend this course over the others ?
Ans : Apart from the limited numbers of registrations and an experienced panel, there are other features we offer that we hope will be useful to the candidates. Each candidate will have a named person among the organisers he or she can talk to, raise concerns and ask for any specific areas of concern to be addressed. Our input will not cease after the course. If candidates want time for working on areas of concern and exam practice after the course, until the exams, they are welcome to approach the organisers for this arrangement at no extra cost.
Smaller groups of candidates mean that the experience will be more individualised and personal.
